Sam McGovern-Rowen

Sam McGovern-Rowen ran for 3rd District Alderman in Milwaukee with a CMS-driven campaign site built by New Local Media. The front page rotated through several static photos and messages while showing the latest campaign news, and upcoming campaign events. Options to donate online, join an email newsletter, or a Facebook group were prominently displayed, along with changing excepts from a FAQ. Two categories of Frequently Asked Questions covered the various campaign issues, and linked excerpts from the FAQ were teased in a fader/rotator module on various pages. The donation system collected information from donors in conformity with campaign finance disclosure laws. A "tag cloud" or "thought cloud" showed the most used words on the site and linked the words to their source pages. Different campaign photos in a Flickr album appeared every time a page was loaded. A photo map page mapped every photo in the campaign albums to a relevant location (events, residents) covering the district's various neighborhoods. There was also a blog for the candidate, an associated Facebook group, and social bookmarking features for sharing items from the website. On the backend, there was a newsletter system for sending out press releases and updates to supporters.
