How Much Will It Cost?
All web development projects are unique, so each one requires an initial discovery process. Each New Local Media project is scoped and quoted individually based on a standard hourly rate ($50/hr.) with an itemized list of deliverables. (Direct costs, e.g., software, are minimal to non-existent, thanks to open source.)
A series of milestone deadlines is added to each estimated scope of work, if applicable, or worked out later. If the total estimate exceeds your budget, the project may be scaled down as needed. The scope, once approved, serves as a contract which may be modified as necessary by mutual agreement.
If work on your project exceeds 10% of the estimated time due to unforeseen challenges or additional feature or design requests, you will be notified and the additional work will not be done without your approval and revision to the existing contract. All projects are a collaboration whose speed and success depends heavily upon the client supplying adequate information, content, and access to existing systems as necessary to complete the project.
If you would like an estimate on the cost to build a new website, overhaul or extend the functionality or design of an existing site, please explain your needs as specifically as you can in this online form. A more in-depth consultation will follow your initial inquiry if your project and New Local Media seem like a good fit.
If you haven't thought in much detail about your needs or you're not sure what you need, take some time to think about this question:
Who is your audience, what is your communicative relationship with them currently, and what are you trying to accomplish in that relationship via online resources?
To plan a successful website, it's essential to determine your current and future goals for it--not just what you want the site to do, but what you want it to accomplish.
For new sites, or relaunches where you are aiming to have a continuous flow of user activity and/or new content, you will need to strategize workflow processes, including maintenance of the site's appearance and underlying software. These considerations add to the total cost of ownership of a website but make it actually useful as a tool in your hands. NLM can help you through this planning process.
